The highly anticipated live-action adaptation of How to Train Your Dragon is set to make its debut in theaters this week. However, there has been some backlash regarding the portrayal of a pivotal character, Astrid, who is portrayed by Nico Parker. Unlike her animated counterpart, Parker’s character does not feature the iconic blonde hair and blue eyes. This alteration has led to disappointment among some dedicated How to Train Your Dragon fans, who have voiced their concerns over the character’s representation.

In a candid interview with The Times of London, Parker addressed the criticism head-on, expressing her determination to remain unaffected by the negativity. She emphasized the importance of embracing the changes made in the live-action version, stating that she hopes audiences can still find elements to appreciate in the film, regardless of their initial expectations.

“Some fans are deeply attached to the animated films and desire a precise replication of those stories, but I encourage them to watch [the new version] and discover something special within it, despite the differences,” she remarked. “For those who resist inclusivity and change, I simply choose not to engage with that negativity.”

Parker elaborated further, saying, “If I wouldn’t take your opinion seriously in most aspects of my life, then I certainly won’t let it affect my views on my hair. If I did, it would drive me crazy.”

The official synopsis paints a vivid picture of the film’s setting: “On the rugged isle of Berk, where fierce battles between Vikings and dragons have persisted for generations, Hiccup (Mason Thames) emerges as an unconventional hero. Universal Pictures appears to be optimistic about the live-action adaptation, particularly following the overwhelmingly positive feedback it garnered during its premiere at CinemaCon earlier this year.
