Jamie Lee Curtis is only sharing her truth—no lies.
The True Lies actress expressed her honest thoughts about guest starring on the “very funny” TV show New Girl, where she played Zooey Deschanel’s mother in six episodes from 2012 to 2018.
“I did a single-camera [show], which I hated,” Curtis stated on Aug. 10 at NBCUniversal’s Summer Backlot Experience, as seen in video captured by Entertainment Weekly. “It’s a good show, but filming it is just like making a movie. You have a camera crew, and nobody laughs. It’s silent and it’s awful. For me, awful.”
Indeed, the 68-year-old highlighted that her dislike stemmed from the format of the show—which did not have a studio audience due to its setup and its use of a single camera for filming—and was not a reflection on the comedy’s cast, which includes Max Greenfield, Lamorne Morris, Jake Johnson, and Hannah Simone.
As the Oscar winner remarked, “Single-camera comedies, for me, not fun.”
That’s why Curtis cherishes her time starring in the multi-camera sitcom Anything But Love, which she recently referred to as her “favorite job ever.”
