Jennifer Lopez Explains Why She May Avoid Broadway Musicals

Since the beginning of her career as a singer and actress, Jennifer Lopez has always had a fondness for musicals and the allure of Broadway. Now that she’s making her debut in musical cinema with Kiss of the Spider Woman, she candidly discussed why a Broadway run may remain out of reach for the time being.

Jennifer Lopez might never do a Broadway musical, as it requires ‘bigger commitment’

The Atlas star recently confessed that she has always dreamed of performing on Broadway. However, her busy schedule filled with movies and music has not provided her with the necessary time.

In a recent interview with Entertainment Weekly, Jennifer Lopez revealed, “I’ve always thought about it. I’ve always had a fantasy of doing Broadway, but my life has always been the music and the movies, so there’s never been a time.”

Lopez further elaborated on the challenge of performing multiple shows each week. She stated, “It would be a nice thing to slow down and just do one thing for a period of time. But it’s a bigger commitment. And I don’t know if I could do eight shows a week.”

Nonetheless, the “Let’s Get Loud” hitmaker is not completely closing the door on Broadway. She mentioned, “At the right time with the right people and the right person, who knows? We’ll see what comes to fruition when that time comes. But I do think Broadway is in my future.”

In addition to that, Jennifer Lopez still dreams of revisiting roles she once aspired to play. One of her favorites is Bye Bye Birdie. Interestingly, it was previously reported that it was being adapted as a live TV production, with her set to portray Rosie.

Unfortunately, that project did not materialize, but Lopez remains eager to be involved in the musical. “I would die to do Bye Bye Birdie. It went away. That was going to be more of a movie, but it would be nice to revive that on Broadway, too,” the 56-year-old expressed.

Currently, Jennifer Lopez is dedicating all her efforts to Kiss of the Spider Woman, where she plays dual roles. She even ensured that she perfected the uncut dance scenes. Moreover, the Bill Condon film allowed her to reconnect with her roots in jazz, ballet, and Broadway dance—skills she shared she learned “when she was a very little girl.”

Featuring Jennifer Lopez alongside Diego Luna and Tonatiuh, Kiss of the Spider Woman premiered in US theaters on October 10, 2025.
