Jesse Leach Discusses New Killswitch Engage Album Insights
On February 21, Killswitch Engage will proudly launch their ninth studio album, This Consequence, which includes their recently unveiled track, “I Believe.” This album is anticipated to resonate deeply with fans, showcasing the band’s evolution and creativity.
Founding member and dynamic frontman Jesse Leach joined Loudwire Nights on January 23 to provide insights into what audiences can look forward to in this exciting new collection of Killswitch Engage songs. Be sure to listen to the full interview in the player located towards the end of this article.

“We put a tremendous amount of effort into this record, and I take great pride in it,” Leach shared with host Chuck Armstrong. This dedication is reflected in the album’s sound, lyrics, and overall message.
“I believe it encapsulates my current perspective as a writer and where the band stands musically. The album has undergone rigorous quality control to reach this point, making its release feel both celebratory and significant, especially considering the weighty messages it conveys in light of the current global climate,” he elaborated.
Leach expressed a strong sense of hope that This Consequence could serve as a source of strength for fans grappling with the darkness present in today’s world.
“From the turmoil of wars to the proliferation of hatred and division, the heaviness of these issues weighs on my heart,” he confessed, acknowledging the emotional impact of these global challenges.
“Yet, I feel a sense of accomplishment in contributing meaningful lyrics to this album that might resonate with listeners,” he added, highlighting the importance of artistic expression in tough times.
When Chuck inquired whether he has always viewed his music in this impactful light, Leach revealed that the Killswitch Engage fanbase has played a crucial role in his awareness.
“I became more conscious of this perspective thanks to the feedback from our fans regarding how they connect with the music,” he explained.
“This realization doesn’t stem from ego; rather, it comes from understanding the significant platform I occupy and recognizing that my words are heard and felt by many. It’s fulfilling to see how my music has positively influenced people’s lives, and I take that responsibility seriously.”
Jesse Leach Shares His Evolving Perspective on Anger and Society
As Leach penned songs for This Consequence, he gained clarity about his changing viewpoint on the world and his own feelings of anger. This introspection led him to explore a more purposeful channeling of that anger.
“It’s about being angry,” he acknowledged, “but it’s not a chaotic or aimless anger. It’s directed at something tangible. I’m weary of the treatment we face in society. This frustration and anger are aimed at fostering positive change. There’s a righteousness in this anger—it’s a wake-up call; we must act and make a difference.”
As he tapped into this renewed purpose, Leach found that a sense of positivity began to emerge in his creative process.

“I’ve navigated through the darkness,” Leach reflected.
“The album serves as a personal journey, where I confront my own emotions—anger, fear, disappointment—and then broaden that lens to observe the world around us. We’ve all experienced these feelings, haven’t we? The album takes a deep inward look before expressing outwardly, embodying the essence of its title, This Consequence.”
