Chloe Malle has been serving as Anna Wintour’s replacement for precisely seven issues of American Vogue (both print and digital) – and Malle’s very first September issue has landed. To mark the occasion, Wintour’s protégé welcomes back Kaia Gerber onto the cover of the American fashion bible, who is joined by Homer Gere. The pair (who both star in Ryan Murphy’s FX drama “The Shards”) pose together for the legendary photographer Steven Meisel, complete with styling from Spencer Singer. In the joyous cover image, captured within Meisel’s photographic studio against a classic grey backdrop, the duo seemingly have bundles of fun prancing around in looks from Matthieu Blazy’s Fall 2026 Chanel collection (whilst paying tribute to the Cindy Crawford and Richard Gere cover from November 1992).

Read below the reactions of theFashionSpot’s forum members:
“Magazines are dead,” immediately declared Creative upon seeing the cover.
“All the PR money thrown in to promote a terrible series that will likely get cancelled after one season,” noted an underwhelmed AnemonefishH.
“There was a time when [covers] had depth and substance (and budgets!). These pictures are technically precise, but are devoid of any soul or creativity,” Royal-Galliano complained.
“Honestly, I feel like Meisel’s team didn’t even really try with this cover. Looks so weird to me. All I can see is the Photoshop. The whole thing feels oddly constructed,” voiced badgalcrush.
Lucien112 added: “I’m more disappointed in the grey background than anything else.”
“I actually like it,” defended Kenny. “The jumping pose brings fantastic burst of 90s nostalgia that feels totally fresh. It’s really rare these days to see a fashion cover with such fun and personality!”
“Personally, I could have done without Homer Gere, but then I suppose it would’ve just been another cover of American Vogue with Kaia Gerber. Kaia looking eerily like Cindy, the Chanel, and the involvement of Steven Meisel is enough to sell me on this. I like the movement, the sense of joy, and how easy, crisp and clean the cover is on the eye,” shared vogue28.
