A tragic helicopter crash in Kenya has resulted in the deaths of seven individuals.
On August 19, six tourists and a Kenyan pilot lost their lives when their helicopter crashed in a remote area of northern Kenya, as confirmed by local police and the U.S. State Department to NBC News.
Among the deceased were five Americans, including businessman Roger Duarte, 42, and Telemundo executive José Alberto Suárez, 55.
Duarte, Suárez, and their crew were en route from Loisaba Conservancy to the Ewaso Nyiro area in Samburu County when the helicopter crashed in a rugged region at the foothills of Mount Ololokwe, according to local media reports cited by NBC News. The cause of the crash remains under investigation.
The Kenya Red Cross announced on X that their “emergency response teams are involved in a multi-agency response effort as rescue teams attempt to reach the crash site,” but they also indicated in a subsequent message that recovery efforts were “complicated by challenging terrain and an active fire at the crash site.”
