Lauren Sánchez Bezos is excited to take on her role for the Met Gala 2026.
Hours before the fashion industry’s biggest event on May 4, Jeff Bezos’ wife—who is serving as an honorary co-chair—shared her appreciation for Anna Wintour.
“As we all know, no one has done more to elevate fashion as an art form,” Sánchez Bezos remarked during a speech at the Costume Institute exhibit press preview, “or to create in this industry the respect it deserves. Thank you, Anna.”
Indeed, the Fly Who Flew Under the Sea author expressed her gratitude for being in a room with Wintour and co-chair Venus Williams. (Nicole Kidman and Beyoncé are also expected to lead the event.)
“The Met has always understood something the rest of the world is finally catching up to: Fashion is art,” the 56-year-old continued, acknowledging the evening’s “Fashion is Art” theme. “The designers we celebrate tonight are true artists. The Costume Institute is the custodian of their work—the way the Met is the custodian of any great painting or sculpture. That’s what this museum definitely understands.”
