Renowned actor Sam Neill is well-known for his thrilling encounters with enormous dinosaurs, but his upcoming venture promises to elevate his cinematic experience to an exceptional level as he joins the next chapter of the MonsterVerse series produced by Legendary Entertainment. This new project is highly anticipated by fans of the franchise, who are eager to witness how Neill’s formidable talent will contribute to the expansive universe that includes iconic monsters like Godzilla and Kong.
While specific plot details remain a closely guarded secret, Legendary has hinted that the sequel will introduce “several new human characters alongside the beloved and iconic Titans Godzilla and Kong as they face off against a cataclysmic world-ending threat.“ Among the cast, Kaitlyn Dever from The Last of Us is set to star, with Jack O’Connell from 28 Years Later playing her character’s brother. Other notable performers joining the ensemble include Matthew Modine of Stranger Things, Alycia Debnam-Carey from Fear the Walking Dead, and Delroy Lindo from Sinners. Additionally, Dan Stevens is expected to reprise his role as Trapper, the skilled Monarch veterinarian known for his inventive solutions, such as replacing Kong’s infected tooth with a metallic implant in the previous installment.
After directing the previous two installments of the MonsterVerse franchise, acclaimed director Adam Wingard has chosen to step back from this project to dedicate his efforts to his upcoming action horror thriller, Onslaught. In his place, Grant Sputore, known for helming Hilary Swank’s sci-fi thriller I Am Mother, has been entrusted with directing the new installment of the franchise. The script will be penned by Dave Callaham, recognized for his work on Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings. Fans can look forward to this eagerly awaited MonsterVerse film, which is scheduled for release on March 26, 2027.
Since the premiere of Jurassic World Dominion, Sam Neill has maintained a relatively low profile, particularly after his diagnosis of stage 3 angioimmunoblastic T-cell lymphoma, a serious type of blood cancer. Fortunately, he is now in remission, although he will require ongoing treatment with a chemotherapy drug for life. During this challenging period, Neill focused on writing his memoir, Did I Ever Tell You This?. He shared his thoughts on this transformative time: “I found myself with nothing to do…And I’m used to working. I love working. I love going to work. I love being with people every day and enjoying human company and friendship and all these things. And suddenly I was deprived of that,” he explained. “And I thought, ‘what am I going to do?’…as I went on and kept writing, I realised it was actually sort of giving me a reason to live and I would go to bed thinking, ‘I’ll write about that tomorrow … that will entertain me.’ And so it was a lifesaver really, because I couldn’t have gone through that with nothing to do, you know.”
