Most Divisive Sci-Fi Reboot Takes Over the World After 8 Years

One of cinema’s best sci-fi horror franchises is currently in a great place. Thanks to the detailed work of director Dan Trachtenberg, the Predator franchise has been steered from its direct path toward an iceberg and into bright new horizons, fit for a modern audience. The latest in this franchise’s exciting new look came with 2025’s animated anthology movie Killers of Killers and Predator: Badlands, both aiming toentice a younger audience to join the fandom.

Boasting a stunning central performance from Elle Fanning and a central story that earned plenty of critical praise, Badlands might not have performed as well at the box office as required, but the response from most was clear that this is the perfect direction for the Predator franchise. What’s next? Well, we know that the next Predator installment is on the way, with Trachtenberg confirming he’s “in this zone of dreaming up more.” There is also hope that Arnold Schwarzenegger himself might reprise his iconic role from Joel McTiernan‘s 1987 original, as he recently admitted that Trachtenberg “wants me to be in the next Predator.” He added, “We’ve talked about it. As a matter of fact, FOX studios has kind of rediscovered Arnold.”

But this exciting future for Predator wasn’t always so rosy, especially given how frustrated the fandom felt after 2018’s <em>The Predator</em>. Director Shane Black took over control following Nimród Antal‘s 2010 effort and promised an “event” film that would breathe new life into the franchise. Instead, fans were left horrified by a lack of horror, as Black diverted the franchise into a more comedic, chaotic direction and away from the chilling, suspense-driven roots it had so proudly boasted. Despised by critics and fans alike, the film also struggled at the box office, unable to double its reported $88 million budget.

WhichSci-Fi World</EM Would You Survive?
The Matrix · Mad Max · Blade Runner · Dune · Star Wars

Five universes. Five completely different ways the future went wrong — or sideways, or up in flames. Only one of them is the world your instincts were built for. Eight questions will figure out which dystopia, galaxy, or desert wasteland you’d actually make it out of alive.

TEST YOUR SURVIVAL →

01

You sense something is deeply wrong with the world around you. What do you do?
The first instinct is often the truest one.

APull on every thread until I understand the system — then figure out how to break it.
BStop asking questions and start stockpiling — food, fuel, weapons. Questions don’t keep you alive.
CKeep my head down, observe carefully, and trust no one until I know who’s pulling the strings.
DStudy the patterns. Every system has a rhythm — learn it, and you learn how to survive it.
E Find the people fighting back and join them. You can’t fix a broken galaxy alone.

02
In a world of scarcity, what resource do you guard most fiercely?
What we protect reveals what we believe survival actually requires.

A Knowledge. If you understand the system, you don’t need resources — you can generate them.
B Fuel. Everything else — movement, power, escape — runs on it.
C Trust. In a world of fakes and informants, a truly reliable ally is rarer than any commodity.
D Water. And after water, information — the two things empires are truly built on.
E Ships and credits. The galaxy is big — you survive it by being able to move through it freely.

03
What kind of threat keeps you up at night?
Fear is useful data — if you’re honest about what you’re actually afraid of.

A That reality itself is a lie — that everything I experience has been constructed to keep me compliant.
B A raid. No warning, no mercy — just the roar of engines and then nothing left.
C Being identified. Once someone with power decides you’re a problem, you’re already out of time.
D Being outmanoeuvred — losing a political game I didn’t even know I was playing.
E The Empire tightening its grip until there’s nowhere left to run.

04
How do you deal with authority you don’t trust?
Every dystopia has a power structure. Your approach to it determines everything.

< span > A </sp an>Subvert it from the inside — learn its rules well enough to weaponise them against it.
< s pan > B </sp an>Ignore it and stay out of its reach. The further from any power structure, the better.
< s pan > C </sp an>Appear to comply while doing exactly what I need to do. Visibility is the enemy.
< s pan > D </sp an>Manoeuvre within it carefully. You can't beat a system you refuse to understand.
< s pan > E </sp an>Resist openly when I have to. Some things are worth the risk of being seen.
