NFL on Mike Vrabel and Dianna Russini Controversy

NFL Reporter Dianna Russini Resigns After Vacation Photos With Patriots’ Mike Vrabel Surface

No challenge flags will be thrown against Mike Vrabel.

After the head coach of the New England Patriots was photographed on a cozy vacation with sports journalist Dianna Russini, NFL chief spokesperson Brian McCarthy informed ESPN that the organization is not reviewing Vrabel’s behavior under its personal conduct policy, which mandates coaches to avoid “conduct detrimental to the integrity of and public confidence in the National Football League.”

E! News has reached out to representatives for Vrabel, the Patriots, and the NFL for comments but has not received a response.

Although Vrabel—who has been married to his wife Jen Vrabel since 1999—will not face investigation by the league, Russini has resigned from her position at The Athletic, a subscription-based journalism department of the New York Times, amid the scandal.

“I have covered the NFL with professionalism and dedication throughout my career, and I stand behind every story I have ever published,” she wrote in an April 14 letter to the sports outlet’s executive editor Steven Ginsberg, which was obtained by the Associated Press. “Unfortunately, commentators in various media have engaged in self-feeding speculation that is simply unmoored from the facts.”
