The Nintendo Switch 2 has recently gained immense popularity, largely due to the success of Tomodachi Life: Living the Dream and Pokémon Pokopia, prompting more players to explore their console’s capabilities. Despite being one of the fastest-selling home entertainment systems in history, it appears that the Nintendo Switch 2 has only begun to tap into its full potential.
Fortunately, if you’ve ever wanted to maximize your portable gaming console’s utility, Switch 2 users have discovered a trick that grants near-complete access to a highly sought-after feature since the system’s launch.
While the functionality was previously available in its own dedicated app on the original Switch, YouTube has been inaccessible on the Switch 2 for almost a year after its full release. However, as shared by KirPinkFury on X, Switch users on Reddit have found that by downloading the free game Super Animal Royale from the Nintendo Store, you can access a fully functional version of YouTube with relatively little effort.
Even though it lacks many features of a supported app, by navigating to the news section of Super Animal Royale on your Switch 2, you can watch any videos as if you were browsing on a home computer.
While many users have expressed excitement over this discovery and shared proof of the app’s functionality, others have criticized it, questioning why YouTube is still not available natively on the Switch 2. Additionally, YouTube is not the only service that Switch 2 users have had to rely on fan solutions for, as access to Twilight Princess on the Switch has only recently been made possible through an emulator.
If you can overlook the many users mocking the lack of native YouTube support for the Switch 2, some report that Super Animal Royale is actually an enjoyable game in its own right, with comments like “people should be playing that game anyway.“
Even if we may never see official YouTube support for the Switch 2 itself, it’s likely that more workarounds like this will emerge in the future. However, even without video support, there are still plenty of leaked Nintendo projects on the horizon to keep us entertained.
