The iconic band Simple Minds launched their highly anticipated Alive & Kicking North American tour on Friday at the picturesque Cascades Amphitheater situated in Ridgefield, Washington. The concert featured performances by fellow ’80s new wave bands Modern English and Soft Cell, adding to the nostalgia and excitement of the evening. The Scottish art-rockers delivered a thrilling performance that drew heavily from their acclaimed 1980s repertoire. Remarkably, six out of the 17 songs performed were from their iconic 1985 album Once Upon a Time, featuring timeless hits like “Alive and Kicking” and “Sanctify Yourself.” Additionally, the band showcased two tracks each from their influential albums: 1982’s New Gold Dream (81/82/83/84), 1984’s Sparkle in the Rain, and 1991’s Real Life. The evening culminated with their chart-topping classic “Don’t You (Forget About Me),” which served as a perfect lead-in to a three-song encore.

The North American tour by Simple Minds is set to cover an impressive two dozen arenas and amphitheaters across the continent, concluding its journey on June 22 in Noblesville, Indiana. Recently, the band celebrated the release of an expanded reissue of Once Upon a Time, which includes the hit “Don’t You (Forget About Me),” originally made famous through its inclusion in The Breakfast Club soundtrack.

Reflecting on the reissue, frontman Jim Kerr shared, “Hindsight is a glorious thing! Forty years on, it now feels right for Simple Minds to have ‘Don’t You (Forget About Me)’ included in this classy new nine-track edition of Once Upon a Time.” His words resonate with the band’s enduring legacy in the music industry.

Additionally, Simple Minds were featured prominently in a 2023 documentary titled Simple Minds: Everything Is Possible.
