A new entry in the <em>Pacific Rim</em> franchise has arrived, promising the ultimate showdown between humanity and the kaiju. In 2013, visionary director Guillermo del Toro introduced Pacific Rim, an homage to television shows and movies like Ultraman and Godzilla. The film was a hit with audiences and added to Del Toro’s accolades.
The movie, featuring Charlie Hunnam and Idris Elba, modernized the kaiju film genre in America. Hunnam portrayed Raleigh Becket, a mecha (referred to as “Jaegers”) pilot tasked with repelling a deadly kaiju invasion. Although Becket appeared to succeed, the kaiju returned in a sequel five years later, titled Pacific Rim: Uprising. John Boyega took on the mecha pilot role for Uprising, playing Jake Pentecost, the son of Idris Elba’s character from the original film. However, Uprising did not perform well at the box office or with critics.
This was not the end of the franchise; an animated series titled The Black, airing on Netflix, is considered the third entry in the franchise and follows two sisters who steal a Jaeger to find their missing parents. The series received critical acclaim and was followed by a graphic novel from Legendary Comics called Pacific Rim: Blackout. Legendary Comics has released Pacific Rim: Final Breach, written by Joshua Hale Fialkov and illustrated by EJ Su. This installment brings back Raleigh Becket into the franchise. The solicitation for the graphic novel states:

The preview pages depict a dire situation for humanity. Once again, the kaiju are on the move, and this time, there may be no stopping them. The kaiju, previously limited to the Pacific Ocean, can now strike anywhere on Earth. One page shows a kaiju emerging in Paris, France, while another depicts multiple small spider-like kaiju infesting a city. Earth faces imminent destruction again, and Becket and Pentecost must unite to save it.
Final Breach Is Giving Fans Exactly What They Want
The addition of Jake Pentecost to Final Breach is a welcome development, providing a link between the two previous films in the franchise. Fans have speculated about what might happen if these two Jaeger pilots ever met, and now Legendary Comics is delivering just that. Becket and Pentecost were among the best Jaeger pilots in history, and Earth needs both of them now more than ever in this latest entry of the franchise.
