Pokemon Winds & Waves New Dragon Pokemon Divides Fans

As 2026 approaches its conclusion, we are just months away from a new mainline Pokémon game that will launch the franchise’s tenth generation. Titled Pokémon Winds and Pokémon Waves, it was first announced earlier this year during the ongoing 30th anniversary celebrations, but since the game is not expected to be released until 2027, details remain limited.

What we do know is that Pokémon Winds and Pokémon Waves will transport players to a tropical archipelago region reminiscent of Southeast Asia, featuring multiple islands and accessible underwater areas. We also know the Starter Pokémon: Grass-type Browt, Fire-type Pombon, and Water-type Gecqua. However, a leak suggests there will be over 300 new Pokémon added to the Pokédex, indicating the scale of this upcoming mainline entry. Additionally, with recent games facing criticism for their lack of ambition, it appears Game Freak has taken this feedback seriously.

Beyond that, there is little else confirmed about Pokémon Winds and Pokémon Waves, aside from information shared through ongoing leaks, which include a potential new Eeveelution, an evolution for Psyduck, and more.

On r/PokemonWindWaves, fans have been speculating about what the ‘pseudo’ Pokémon will be for this upcoming entry. For those unfamiliar, a ‘pseudo’ refers to a fan-created term for a non-legendary Pokémon that has a three-stage evolution line. Not all Pokémon evolve within the franchise; many remain in their base forms. However, ‘pseudo’ Pokémon typically do evolve, leading fans to discuss which Pokémon could be next in line for Pokémon Winds and Pokémon Waves.

“What do you think WiWa’s Pseudo could be?” one user asked. “Honestly, there’s a good chance it might be a dragon again (shocker). But if it’s NOT a dragon, what typing would y’all see it as? It’d be cool if it was Fire/Steel + Earth eater.”

With nearly 300 comments, it’s clear that fans have diverse opinions on the next three-stage evolution line. One user expressed, “I’d love it if it weren’t a Dragon-type for a change. But I know I’m asking for the impossible.”

Another user commented, “Make it a mammal, cowards. A dragon every generation is stale. Imagine if Slaking or Ursaluna were among the pseudos. Metagross is the only formula break they’ve ever had and that was over 20 years ago.”

With suggestions ranging from Bug/Dragon to Water/Dragon and everything in between, it seems fans are growing tired of Pokémon’s dragon-types, and I cannot help but agree. However, with no evolutions confirmed for Pokémon Winds and Pokémon Waves yet, we will have to wait until the game launches on the Nintendo Switch 2 sometime next year.
