The Pokémon franchise has experienced various ups and downs over the years, but overall, it has delivered enjoyable experiences. Some of the more controversial entries in the series include Pokémon X & Y, which launched in 2013 as the first mainline Pokémon games presented in full 3D.
At the time, there was significant criticism regarding the story and default difficulty, with many believing that the developers did not reach the same level as previous titles. However, there were still many positive aspects, and several strengths could have been further explored by players.
Fortunately, a new release is on the horizon that promises to bring a fresh perspective, potentially becoming one of the most exciting arrivals in the coming year.
As first reported by GameRant, the ROM hack Pokémon X and Y Legacy is set to be released on November 26, showcasing to developers what it’s like to not be intimidated by the upcoming launch of GTA VI. This is the same team that previously worked on Pokémon Yellow, Crystal, and Emerald Legacies, all of which updated gameplay without fundamentally altering the experience.
This approach is ideal for the original games, which had excellent foundations but struggled with overall execution. The significant change in this latest effort addresses difficulty issues by introducing a new Pokémon Hard mode, which implements restrictive changes to battle systems to significantly increase overall difficulty.
This time around, Gym Leaders will also present more challenges, and any encountered after the fourth gym will utilize Mega Evolutions. However, this feature remains largely unchanged from the original, which is understandable given the context of the base games.
You can find the trailer for this game on the SmithPlays Pokémon YouTube channel, and fan responses have been overwhelmingly positive.
“I just finished playing through Johto in Crystal Legacy, and it was genuinely one of the most enjoyable Pokémon experiences I’ve had in a long time despite never having played Crystal, only the gen 4 remakes. I can’t wait to get my hands on a game of similar quality that I actually have nostalgia for from my childhood,” one comment stated.
Another fan added, “Honestly, I absolutely don’t need new events in these Legacy games. Just knowing I can create whatever team I think is cool because the learn sets and stats will be well thought out. Being able to complete the Pokédex and engage in better battles is all I want personally!”
This could also be one of the best ways to occupy your time while waiting for Pokémon Winds and Waves, which is expected to be released in the latter half of next year.
