Kayla Netherland was 20 weeks pregnant with her rainbow baby when her estranged husband shot her five times in the back. Jeremy McBride, 36, is currently in police custody facing multiple charges connected to the calculated attack. Although Kayla remarkably survived the brutal assault, her unborn child tragically did not survive, according to reports from Fox 59.

Husband Admits to Intentional Killing of His Wife?s Unborn Child

An affidavit from the Indianapolis Metro PD details a harrowing phone call on January 19 regarding the shooting incident. A female witness, who had gone to Kayla?s home to do laundry, stumbled upon Jeremy McBride standing beside Kayla?s bleeding body on the bathroom floor. At that moment, the witness reported that McBride appeared to be on the phone, stating someone had been shot. He reportedly fled the scene before the police arrived. However, during her 911 call, the witness mentioned that he had called her to inform her of his intention to turn himself in.

Law enforcement quickly tracked him down before he could reach the police station, conducted a traffic stop, and placed him under arrest. During the arrest, McBride allegedly informed the officers that the gun was located in his vehicle, which was later confirmed. Following a search warrant, investigators also discovered an extended magazine clip along with two loaded handgun magazines, further implicating him in the premeditated attack.

In his police interview, Jeremy McBride confessed to meticulously planning the murder of his estranged wife and the demise of her unborn rainbow baby. He even disclosed that he had contemplated taking his own life following the attack. McBride admitted to practicing his shooting skills multiple times leading up to the incident. The bullets that struck Kayla ultimately penetrated her abdomen, resulting in the loss of the 20-week-old fetus, which McBride expressed jealousy over, lamenting that he was not the biological father.

?McBride admitted to thinking of his plans over the course of several days, and stated that he shot his wife multiple times while she was turned away from him in the residence,? the probable cause affidavit states.

Prosecutors revealed that McBride expressed deep-seated resentment towards Kayla?s pregnancy, stemming from their struggles with infertility. He claimed that she had been unfaithful and conceived a child with someone else, despite their divorce proceedings being incomplete. Additionally, he had several written notes articulating his feelings of paternity rage and jealousy, showcasing the emotional turmoil he was experiencing.

?Maybe she will come back one day, but not for me. But in many ways, I killed her,? Jeremy McBride reportedly stated, highlighting his conflicted emotions.

Family Updates on Kayla?s Recovery Journey

Kayla?s family spoke to WRTV, providing an update on her health status following the traumatic shooting. They confirmed that she has undergone multiple surgeries, including the removal of her left ovary, left fallopian tube, part of her small intestine, and part of her colon, as well as repairs to her uterus. While she has survived the ordeal and is not paralyzed, it remains uncertain whether the 25-year-old will ever be able to conceive again. She has not publicly addressed the devastating loss of her rainbow baby in such a tragic manner.

?She was 5 months pregnant with her miracle baby, after several failed pregnancies in the past, and she has lost her baby due to this outrageous crime committed against her. She is alive, and not paralyzed, thank God,? the family shared.

Currently, Jeremy McBride is incarcerated at Marion County Jail, facing serious charges, including attempted murder with the intention of killing another person and feticide. He had his initial court hearing on Friday, January 24, where the gravity of his actions was addressed.
