According to Debbie Harry, the iconic band Blondie is currently navigating a phase of uncertainty and transition. This period of limbo is marked by exciting prospects, including plans to unveil a new album in the fall of this year. Additionally, Harry has shared that discussions for a Blondie biopic and documentary are underway, reflecting the band’s significant cultural impact and legacy. Recently, she told Vanity Fair, “They’re in the works, but I don’t know how a life can be summarized or given a caption. I suppose there’ll be something that’s off the wall but will somehow work. I’m happy to be doing it — it’s helping me to collect my thoughts.”
However, the atmosphere is tinged with sadness following the passing of drummer Clem Burke last April, which has left the band’s future somewhat nebulous. Harry expressed her feelings of disorientation, stating, “I ran into a wall: the [2024] tour ended, Clem died, and wow. What is this space I live in now?” She elaborated on her journey of healing: “I’m curing — I’m doing a cure. And part of that is de-cluttering up my space, which is crowded with that life. I need to get some breath, get some air in there. And I want to feel that little spark of creativity, surprise — those things. There’s a little tingle of that, and I hope that will be there for me.”
Exploring the Future: Is Blondie Considering Retirement?
Harry has been contemplating the idea of retirement for more than a decade, stirring discussions among fans and bandmates alike. In 2014, Burke remarked on the persistent rumors surrounding their final tours, saying, “As for the rumors of the last tour, we’ve decided we’ll live forever.” Yet, he acknowledged Harry’s age, noting, “Debbie is older than me and has hinted it could be time. Obviously without her, there is no Blondie.”

In her conversation with Vanity Fair, Harry reminisced about her vintage stage outfits, revealing that she is in the process of parting with many of these treasured items. “I don’t have all of it,” she explained. “I do have the stage stuff and the clothes I made for photography and shows — I’ve been careful about that, even though it’s a pile of rags. It’s in a storage space, because I had it in my house until I couldn’t stand it anymore. But now that I’m not on the road, I’m getting good at deleting it.” This speaks to her desire for a fresh start and to embrace new beginnings.
As of now, Blondie does not have any concerts scheduled, leaving fans eager for updates about the band’s next moves and creative endeavors.
