A new romantic drama series has managed to find its audience on Amazon Prime Video within days of its launch. The title has climbed to the top of streaming charts, surpassing Off Campus and Nicolas Cage’s Spider-Noir.
How is a romantic drama series outperforming Spider-Noir and Off Campus with viewers?
As of June 14, 2026, Every Year After is the #1 show on Amazon Prime Video in the United States, according to data shared by FlixPatrol. It holds this position in both the overall and TV show categories, beating Off Campus and Spider-Noir, which are currently #2 and #3. This is also the case globally.
The series first premiered at the Tribeca Festival on June 8, 2026, before arriving with all episodes at once on June 10. It has drawn a mixed-to-lukewarm critical reception. As of this writing, on Rotten Tomatoes, the romantic drama holds a 70% critical approval rating. It also has a lower, more mediocre 51% audience score. Meanwhile, Metacritic has assigned it a “mixed or average” Metascore of 57.
Angie Han of The Hollywood Reporter wrote in her review, “So besotted with its own heartbreak it forgets to sell the romantic fantasy that would make it worthwhile in the first place, it mainly serves to confirm that recapturing that The Summer I Turned Pretty magic is easier said than done.”
Meanwhile, Decider‘s Joel Keller deemed the show watchable. He stressed that the show didn’t bring anything “unique” or “revolutionary” to the romantic drama genre. However, he noted that the cast and setting were appealing enough to serve as “a pleasant distraction for fans of romantic dramas.”
Roger Ebert‘s Lacy Baugher wrote that the show felt “weirdly directionless.” She added that it paid “lip service to ideas like character development without actually earning most of its various twists.”
Created by Amy B. Harris and Leila Gerstein, Every Year After is based on Carley Fortune’s book, Every Summer After. In addition to creating, Harris serves as showrunner. Furthermore, Harris and Fortune executive-produced alongside Lindsey Liberatore, Amy Rardin, Gillian Robespierre, and John Stephens.
