Schindler’s List Star Leads a Post-Apocalyptic Empire in New Sci-Fi Release

A storm is brewing, and it’s less than two weeks away from crashing into theaters. March 13 will mark the arrival of Storm Rider: Legend of Hammerhead, a new sci-fi fantasy epic adventure set three centuries after a great flood in a post-apocalyptic world divided into islands under constant threat from a massive, unending electrical storm. Striking a balance somewhere between The Hunger Games and Dune, the film centers on a society where the only way to secure survival from the storm is to compete in the deadly trial of Storm Riding, vanquishing other riders to earn a spot in the fortified city-state of Argos. Like the Hunger Games, though, there’s always someone behind the wheel of these games that can’t be trusted. We’re thrilled to shine a light on that side of the world as part of Collider’s Exclusive Spring Preview series for upcoming film and television titles.

Ahead of Storm Rider‘s release, we have a new image that introduces one of The Founders, an elite group of immortals that inhabit Argos and rule over all during these fraught times. Their oppression promises order and a path to salvation from the storm, but the truth may not be what they’ve sold. Among the Founders is the Baroness, played by Schindler's List alum and more recent Nautilus recurring presence Caroline Goodall, who watches with intent from just beyond her shades. In her black uniform, she exudes authority, acting as an all-seeing figure keeping tabs on any potential threats to the Founders’ authority.

The Baroness has reason to be vigilant, as the rebellious young islander, Neb (Marco Ilsø), refuses to accept the Founder’s rule any longer. Inspired by the legends of Hammerhead, a man who somehow rode into the storm and survived, he’s determined to do the same to find the truth of the world beyond his oppressors’ words. He’s joined in his audacious journey by another islander named Maia (Sarah-Sofie Boussnina) and sets out to challenge fate and the authority of the Founders alike by riding into the breach with the belief that true salvation may not lie in Argos, but somewhere beyond the bounds of the lightning. In doing so, they’ll find themselves on a collision course with the Founders’ enforcers, who are determined to find them and keep the truth hidden at any cost.

Domagoj Mazuran and Zoran Lisinac co-wrote and co-directed Storm Rider, with Neb Chupin helping to conceive the story and Matthew G. Zamias joining the trio as a fellow producer. In addition to Ilsø, Boussnina, and Goodall, the film also counts James Cosmo among its cast, previously seen in epics like Highlander and Braveheart, and the John Krasinski-led thriller series Tom Clancy’s Jack Ryan. Billy Barratt, who most recently took center stage in Danny and Michael Philippou‘s horrifying Talk to Me follow-up, Bring Her Back, is also on board as a young Neb, with Joey Ansah, Ivana Dudić, Goran Bogdan, and Sergej Trifunović rounding out the bunch.
