Star Trek Actors Emotional Reactions to Strange New Worlds Finale

Star Trek: Strange New Worlds actors discuss the emotional journey of season 5, revealing that they cried at the end of every episode of the final season. Paramount+ has officially confirmed that Star Trek: Strange New Worlds season 4 will premiere on Thursday, July 23, marking the only remaining season of the Starship Enterprise prequel with 10 episodes.

Star Trek: Strange New Worlds season 5, the final season, will consist of only 6 episodes. Filming for season 5 wrapped just before Christmas 2025, and it is expected to premiere on Paramount+ in 2027. Following the second and final season of Star Trek: Starfleet Academy, season 5 will likely conclude Alex Kurtzman’s decade-long tenure as executive producer of Star Trek on Paramount+.

Collider‘s Steven Weintraub interviewed Rebecca Romijn, Ethan Peck, Celia Rose Gooding, and Paul Wesley at CCXP Mexico. While promoting Star Trek: Strange New Worlds season 4, Romijn hinted at the “many, very, very, very emotional beats” in the final season, with Gooding mentioning that she “cried at every end” of the final six scripts. Below are their quotes:

Collider: You’ve already filmed the series finale. What was it like reading that script since it’s the end of a chapter? How emotional was it to film that particular episode?

Rebecca Romijn: It wasn’t just that one. I think there were several episodes in [Season] 5. They did a great job wrapping up many character storylines in 5, and there are so many very, very, very emotional beats throughout Season 5. It wasn’t just the finale.

Celia Rose Gooding: I think I cried at every end of the scripts for the season.

Rebecca Romijn: There were a lot of tears in almost every episode of that season.

Ethan Peck: For me, it was just so exciting. I can’t believe we got to do five seasons of a television show.

Celia Rose Gooding: In the streaming era.

Ethan Peck: And so, to have reached the end, to have reached Season 5, was so spectacular to me. I just felt this amazing sense of triumph after we finished everything. And it continues. We get to promote the seasons on and on; we’ll be connected with this role forever.

Rebecca Romijn: Yeah, we still have two incredible seasons to look forward to, so there’s nothing sad about it.

Paul Wesley: That said, I loved reading the script for the finale. I was like, “Wow, this is so awesome,” just to wrap up this amazing set of seasons. It was beautifully written.

Paul Wesley’s enthusiasm for Star Trek: Strange New Worlds‘ series finale likely relates to how the Starship Enterprise transitions from Captain Christopher Pike (Anson Mount) to his character, Captain James T. Kirk. The final episode of Strange New Worlds is said to focus on Kirk’s first day as Captain of the Enterprise.

The cast also revealed to Collider details about guest stars in the series finale, including Thomas Jane as Dr. Leonard “Bones” McCoy and Kai Murakami as Hikaru Sulu. Celia Rose Gooding anticipates that these final pieces from Star Trek: The Original Series‘ crew will “make fans really excited.” Paul Wesley agreed, calling Jane and Murakami “fantastic.”

Star Trek Strange New Worlds season 3 cast

Before reaching its final season, Star Trek: Strange New Worlds season 4 is on the immediate horizon. The actors praise season 4 as their best yet, highlighting a horror episode featuring Paul Wesley’s Kirk, a planet where Captain Pike can cowboy up, dinosaurs involving a puppeteer from Jurassic Park, and an episode where Captain Pike and his crew become puppets themselves.

Star Trek: Strange New Worlds season 4 will be the last new televised content for Star Trek on Paramount+ as part of celebrating the franchise’s 60th anniversary in 2026. Season 5 will conclude a decade-long journey that began with Star Trek: Discovery in 2017.

Despite many endings approaching, as Ethan Peck states, actors from Star Trek: Strange New Worlds understand they will remain connected to their roles “forever.”
