James Gunn recently selected his winner in a hypothetical fight between Green Lantern and Superman. Gunn introduced Superman and Green Lantern, Guy Gardner, in the Superman movie, which is set to release in July 2025. As two of the strongest characters currently in the new DCU, fans are eager to know who would emerge as the clear victor if they clashed.
James Gunn believes Green Lantern could defeat Superman in a fight
James Gunn stated that Green Lantern could defeat Superman in a fight. The director appeared on Peacemaker: The Official Podcast, where actor Tim Meadows expressed his desire for his character from Peacemaker Season 2, Langston Fleury, to battle Guy Gardner’s Green Lantern.
However, Gunn conveyed that Fleury would lose as Green Lantern possesses the potential to even defeat Superman. “I’m not sure Superman would beat Green Lantern. I definitely don’t think Langston Fleury is going to beat Green Lantern,” Gunn remarked.
When Jennifer Holland, who portrays Emilia Harcourt in Peacemaker, suggested that she believes Superman would be victorious, Gunn responded, “He’s Superman, but it’s still a fight. It’s a real fight.”
Although a clash between Gardner and Superman is not imminent in the DCU, fans witnessed the tension between the two in the movie. This occurs when David Corenswet’s Superman is confronted by Nathan Fillion’s Guy Gardner regarding his parents’ message.
While Superman warns him not to provoke him, Gardner challenges him to try attacking him, implying that he could take on the Man of Steel. After the movie’s release, fans debated who would win between the two superpowers. It was ultimately concluded that while Gardner could defeat most of his opponents, Superman would likely prevail against him. Furthermore, Gardner has not officially defeated Superman in the comics.
