The highly acclaimed episode “USS Callister” from the renowned anthology series BLACK MIRROR is set to be transformed into a captivating comic book. As the opening episode of Season 4, it features Jesse Plemons and Cristin Milioti in the roles of virtual reality programmer Robert Daly and his assistant in a Star Trek-inspired VR universe. This groundbreaking episode garnered significant recognition, winning four Emmy Awards and inspiring a sequel episode titled “Into Infinity” in Season 7. The episode’s widespread acclaim has paved the way for its adaptation into a new medium, reflecting its enduring popularity.
According to Bleeding Cool, the comic book adaptation of USS Callister, crafted by Neil Gibson and illustrated by Silvano Beltramo, marks Black Mirror’s inaugural official graphic novel. This adaptation will faithfully retell the gripping narrative of the original episode, produced by Twisted Comics, who are currently running a Kickstarter campaign to bring this exciting project to fruition. Previously, Neil Gibson’s Twisted Comics released a Black Mirror comic for Free Comic Book Day, which provided an exclusive preview of their adaptation of “San Junipero.” Below, you can find images from both that comic and USS Callister:
The announcement is accompanied by an official press release that reads:
Dive deep into the dystopian realms of Black Mirror with the debut of the first-ever OFFICIAL GRAPHIC NOVEL: USS CALLISTER. This mind-bending anthology series has mesmerized millions over the last decade, exposing humanity’s darkest flaws and greatest technological advancements. Soon, fans will be able to enjoy iconic episodes away from their screens and on the vivid pages of comic books brought to life by Twisted Comics. The campaign for the launch title, USS Callister, authored by Neil Gibson and illustrated by Silvano Beltramo, is set to take off this summer, with plans for other iconic BLACK MIRROR titles to follow. Sign up for the Kickstarter to receive notifications when USS Callister is ready for you to board. Additionally, you can subscribe to our newsletter for exclusive updates about the expanding universe of BLACK MIRROR comics. Subscribers will gain access to behind-the-scenes content and even have a chance to be included in a future graphic novel.
We’re also excited to include playful references to the in-show series, Space Fleet. Fans should keep an eye out for clever nods throughout the comic, such as a mock cover of the 1960s Space Fleet comic issue one. We envision this detail framed in Robert Daly’s office, catering to fans who appreciate such intricacies (and we know you’re out there).
The Kickstarter campaign includes exclusive behind-the-scenes previews and special rewards for backers. This anticipated graphic novel is set to be released in vibrant colors, enhancing the storytelling experience.
Stay tuned for further updates on the unfolding story…
