Vehicles continue to collide with Billy Corgan‘s suburban Chicago teahouse, Madame ZuZu’s. This alarming trend has resulted in yet another car crashing into the storefront, raising concerns for the safety of patrons and the integrity of the building.
Discover the Unique Experience at Madame ZuZu’s Emporium
Billy Corgan and his wife, Chloe Mendel Corgan, proudly own and run Madame ZuZu’s Emporium, a charming Chinese-style teahouse located in Highland Park. Since its opening in 2012, this delightful shop has become a favorite spot in the downtown area, attracting a diverse clientele looking for a relaxing atmosphere and exquisite teas.
Over the years, Madame ZuZu’s has evolved significantly, transitioning from a primarily plant-based teashop to a vibrant café offering an extensive menu, including various beverages and delightful food options. The space also boasts a section dedicated to vinyl records for sale, appealing to music enthusiasts. Additionally, it serves as a performance venue, hosting live performances by Corgan, Perry Farrell, and other talented artists, enhancing its cultural significance in the community.
However, in recent times, the establishment has gained notoriety for a series of unfortunate incidents involving cars crashing into the building, overshadowing its positive reputation.
Details of the Latest Vehicle Incident at Madame ZuZu’s
According to reports from Chicago’s WGN-TV, the most recent crash occurred on a Tuesday when a car collided with the side of the building. The specific cause of the accident remains unclear, but fortunately, there have been no reported injuries at this time.
Mendel Corgan informed WGN that Madame ZuZu’s suffered “some exterior damage.” Images shared by the local news outlet, The Record North Shore, depict cracked bricks on the building’s façade and damaged metal window trim, clearly illustrating the impact of the collision.
This incident marks the second time in just six months that a vehicle has crashed into Madame ZuZu’s, raising serious concerns about the safety of the location.
In a previous incident in October 2024, a car drove over a curb and crashed through the shop’s window. During that event, Mendel Corgan’s mother, Jenny, was injured while enjoying lunch inside with the couple’s son, Augustus. Thankfully, Augustus was quick enough to leap out of harm’s way and was not injured, as reported by Mendel following that alarming incident which temporarily closed the beloved teahouse.
Despite the latest crash, Madame ZuZu’s has remained open for business, continuing to serve its loyal customers and maintain its operations.
“Can you believe someone drove into the @madamezuzus AGAIN?” Corgan expressed in an Instagram story, sharing a photo that captured his reflection in the shop’s window, highlighting the surreal nature of these repeated incidents.
In the meantime, The Smashing Pumpkins are scheduled to perform in Bulgaria on July 27. Billy Corgan is also gearing up for a tour with Billy Corgan and the Machines of God, which will showcase music from iconic albums like Mellon Collie and the Infinite Sadness, Machina/The Machine of God, and Machina II/The Friends and Enemies of Modern Music. This exciting tour is set to kick off on June 7 in Baltimore.
