According to star David Howard Thornton, Terrifier 4 will feature an “insane” ending and a satisfying origin story for the iconic Art the Clown.
Terrifier 4 is currently in development, with Damien Leone returning to write and direct. Despite portraying the most important character in the franchise, Thornton knows little about Terrifier 4 because Leone is withholding the major details for now. What Thornton does know is that Leone plans to explore the genesis of Art the Clown, which adds to the franchise’s thrilling conclusion.
What did Art the Clown’s actor say about Terrifier 4?
“I’m very excited, but I don’t know a whole lot, because this time around Damien has been keeping everything very close to his vest about what’s happening in the script,” Thornton said in an interview with Slasher Radio. “He [Leone] just goes, ‘Oh yeah, you’re gonna love the origin story, Dave. You’re gonna love how we do it.’ And he said also, ‘The finale is bat-shit insane. You’re gonna have a lot of fun with that.’ Other than that, I don’t know, but that makes me excited.”
Leone has previously stated that Terrifier 4 will be the final entry in the franchise.
Terrifier is an example of how word of mouth can ignite a franchise. After appearing in a few shorts and an anthology film, Art the Clown became the lead villain in Terrifier, the first feature in the franchise. Released in 2016, Terrifier revolves around two friends who become the targets of the sadistic serial killer known as Art the Clown. The movie made over $420,000 on a budget of less than $55,000.
The cultlike following of the first movie led to 2022’s Terrifier 2, which crowdfunded its $250,000 budget. Terrifier 2 became a critical hit and a box office sensation thanks to a $15.8 million gross.
2024’s Terrifier 3 defied expectations by grossing over $90 million worldwide on a $2 million budget.
Terrifier 4 currently does not have a release date.
