The Elder Scrolls 6 Gameplay Tease Excites Gamers Everywhere

Yesterday marked the 8-year anniversary of the first announcement of The Elder Scrolls VI. Announced in 2018, The Elder Scrolls VI is set to be the next installment in The Elder Scrolls franchise, arriving 15 years after the last mainline entry, The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim.

However, with the first and only reveal for The Elder Scrolls VI occurring almost a decade ago, and with no news, trailers, or even hints of a release window since then, it is safe to say that fans are feeling less hopeful regarding Bethesda’s progress. Things worsened back in April when Bethesda head Todd Howard admitted that The Elder Scrolls VI was indeed announced too soon. “Just pretend we didn’t announce it. It doesn’t exist,” Howard stated when asked about TES VI in an interview with IGN.

Now, a few months after Howard’s surprising revelation, the Bethesda head is back with a more optimistic tone.

According to Xbox Chief Content Officer for The Elder Scrolls VI, Matt Booty, (via Variety), he stated: “Having visited Bethesda and sat with Todd and seen Elder Scrolls playing, it looks amazing, and it’s coming along well. And we’ll make sure to announce it and really reveal it at the right time.”

When that right time will be is still uncertain, but it is reassuring to finally hear a positive update regarding the development of The Elder Scrolls VI. Now, we can only hope that it will launch before 2030.

In the meantime, news of Booty’s latest update spread quickly across social media, prompting fans to share their thoughts on r/TESVI. “Honestly, this is the closest we’ve got to actually getting any kind of news in days or even weeks,” read the top comment, reflecting my own sentiments. “They looked at this subreddit and realized they might need to throw us a bone,” another user humorously remarked.

This update undoubtedly follows the latest Xbox Games Showcase which, despite showcasing many Bethesda games such as Fallout 76 and DOOM, provided no information about The Elder Scrolls VI, leading to fan outrage.

However, one user on Reddit expressed a more optimistic view of the situation, sharing, “This is one of the rare instances where I’m glad I’m older. Time flies by more as I age. I was in my mid-teens when Daggerfall released, so the six or so years from it to Morrowind felt torturous. Whereas the 15 years since Skyrim doesn’t seem as long to me. For those who were around 12 when Skyrim launched, I’m sure it feels like a century. This is an era where there are far more choices in games to keep you occupied while you wait.”

It is true that many incredible games have been released and will continue to be released before the launch of <em>The Elder Scrolls VI, but for now, we can only hope that this latest update is enough to keep fans satisfied… for now.
