The Spring 2027 Met Gala exhibit honouring John Galliano is cancelled. Earlier today, the Metropolitan Museum of Art, along with Galliano himself, announced that the exhibition devoted to his four-decade oeuvre will not proceed as planned. Immediately after the announcement in late July, the event faced controversy from the start. Many fixed on antisemitic and anti-Asian comments made by Galliano more than a decade ago. In 2011, French authorities convicted the British designer of a hate crime, and Christian Dior subsequently fired him from his position as creative director.
Galliano stated: “After much reflection and discussion with The Met and all those involved, I have decided, with great sadness, that it is best for the exhibition not to take place at this time. I remain fully accountable for the pain caused by my words in the past, particularly the hurt I caused to the Jewish and Asian communities, and I remain deeply sorry for it.”

“Surprised that it eventually came to this.” [Coteau Stone]
“I’m so FCKN mad. Cancelled because of a silly mistake he made.” [pradabananas]
“Very saddened by this development. I know a lot of people that mentioned great things about working with John and what a nice person he is. I have a feeling it really wasn’t his choice to cancel the Met. No forgiveness, no tact left in this world. The cancel culture is targeting the wrong ones and almost exists just for fun at this point.” [prada melodies]
“Horrible news. Horrible. I blame all those internet talking heads. Every big star should come to the next gala dressed in Galliano.” [brandon J pierre]
“I’m disappointed; I thought this would go through.” [PierreGotha]
“This is all just pathetic. Must he really die to start being appreciated and have dedicated MET exhibition?” [Olaffo]
