The Sixth Faction Series by Veronica Roth

Get Shailene Woodley on the phone.

Author Veronica Roth revealed that she has written two new books in the Divergent universe, announcing at New York BookCon that the duo—called The Sixth Faction—will be released on Oct. 6.

It has been 15 years since she released the first book in her dystopian Divergent series, with the movies starting in 2014 starring Woodley as heroine Beatrice “Tris” Prior and Theo James as Tobias “Four” Eaton.

However, the new novels are not sequels; instead, they explore what would have happened if Tris had chosen a different path for herself.

“Not a prequel, not a sequel, not a spinoff, not a different POV but an alternate universe of Divergent where Tris chooses a different faction,” Roth told USA Today in an interview published on April 18. “I think the question of ‘who is Tris without Dauntless’ is an interesting one.”

So, what can fans expect from the two books?

“In The Sixth Faction, Beatrice Prior stands on the brink of a decision every person in her world must make: five factions, five futures, five lives,” reads a synopsis from publisher HarperCollins. “She has a plan: she’s going to make the bravest choice and leave Abnegation behind to join Dauntless, even though it means leaving her family behind.”
