During a recent exclusive presentation, Pixar COO Pete Docter unveiled exciting details about Toy Story 5, the latest installment in the beloved animated franchise that has captivated audiences for decades.

In a vibrant presentation held in New York City, Docter elaborated on the film’s intriguing premise. The story will focus on the toys’ owner, Bonnie, who is now eight years old and is navigating her evolving social life. As she matures, Bonnie seeks to connect with others in new and innovative ways that reflect her growing independence.
Among the new characters introduced is Lily Pad, a unique character resembling a tablet encased in a playful frog design. This character can communicate and offers different perspectives to the toys, who are grappling with their relevance in a world increasingly dominated by electronic devices rather than traditional toys. The voice actor for Lily Pad has not yet been disclosed, although earlier reports suggested that Anna Faris would have a secret role in the film.
As challenges arise, the toys turn to their old ally, Woody. However, Woody and Buzz Lightyear find themselves at odds regarding the best way to support Bonnie. Notably, Mr. Potato Head expresses delight at witnessing their familiar bickering once again, adding a nostalgic touch to the dynamic.
Docter also provided a sneak peek of the film’s opening scene, which features Buzz Lightyear awakening on a deserted island. He discovers that he is surrounded by numerous Buzz Lightyear action figures, remnants of what seems to be a shipwreck. Stranded, these Buzz Lightyears gaze at the sky, mistaking it for Star Command. This sets them off on an adventurous journey into the unknown. At the recent D23 Expo, Pixar revealed that this army of Buzz Lightyears will play the role of villains in the story.
The direction of Toy Story 5 will be helmed by Andrew Stanton, known for his iconic works like Finding Nemo and Wall-E, based on a screenplay he crafted. Returning to their beloved roles are Tom Hanks, Tim Allen, and Joan Cusack, reprising their characters Woody, Buzz, and Jessie, respectively. In addition, Tony Hale will return as Forky from Toy Story 4, while Conan O’Brien is set to voice a new character named Smarty Pants. Moreover, Ernie Hudson will take on the role of Combat Carl, previously portrayed by Carl Weathers.
Toy Story 5 is currently scheduled to hit theaters on June 19, 2026, promising to deliver another heartwarming adventure that fans have come to love.
