Toy Story 5 has entered the list of the most expensive animated movies ever made. The upcoming installment in Disney and Pixar‘s blockbuster franchise brings back fan-favorite characters such as Buzz Lightyear, Woody, and more.
What is the budget for Toy Story 5?
The budget for Toy Story 5 has been reported to be $250 million, excluding global marketing expenses. With that figure, the upcoming title has become the second-most expensive animated movie ever produced.
In the first place is 2010’s Disney blockbuster Tangled, which was made for 0 million (probably not including marketing expenses). The second spot is now shared by Toy Story 5 alongside 2019’s The Lion King remake, which was made for $250 million as well.
Interestingly, Toy Story 5 is also Pixar’s most expensive animated movie in history. Recently released entries from the studio, such as Lightyear, Toy Story 4, and Toy Story 3, were made for a reported budget of $200 million.
Given its humongous cost, Toy Story 5 needs to make a lot at the box office. Well, the early projections have painted a bright picture for the fifth animated installment in the beloved kid-friendly series. The movie is tracking for a $140 million domestic opening weekend and a total of $275 million worldwide.
To date, Toy Story 4 remains the biggest and most successful movie in Disney and Pixar’s iconic series. Back in 2019, it grossed over $1.07 billion at the worldwide box office, which is just marginally higher than Toy Story 3’s global collection of $1.06 billion.
Speaking more of Toy Story 5, it’s directed by Andrew Stanton. The star-studded voice cast includes Tim Allen as Buzz Lightyear, Tom Hanks as Woody, and Joan Cusack as Jessie. Keanu Reeves will also be seen reprising his popular role of Duke Caboom from the last film. Additional cast members are Annie Potts, Wallace Shawn, Ernie Hudson, and John Ratzenberger.
