Tulsa King Spin-Off Faces Unexpected Challenges from Sheridan and Jackson

It appears that even Taylor Sheridan’s remarkable television empire is facing its share of challenges.

According to a recent report by Variety, the anticipated series known as NOLA King, which is a Tulsa King spin-off featuring Samuel L. Jackson, has encountered a significant setback. Dave Erickson, initially set to take the reins as the showrunner for this high-priority Paramount+ project, is no longer involved due to a scheduling conflict. While the series has yet to receive official greenlighting from the streaming service, sources have confirmed that efforts to find a new showrunner are actively underway.

Initially announced in June, NOLA King was designed to broaden the Tulsa King universe, introducing Jackson as a powerful crime boss in New Orleans, fitting into the same gritty and morally ambiguous mold as Sylvester Stallone’s character, Dwight “The General” Manfredi. The vision included Jackson making appearances in several episodes of Tulsa King Season 3, which would help lay the foundation for a standalone spin-off that delves into the corruption-filled underbelly of the Big Easy.

However, with Erickson stepping away — even as he continues to serve as showrunner for both Tulsa King Season 3 and Mayor of Kingstown — the future of NOLA King is currently in limbo. Erickson had taken over Tulsa King this season after the previous showrunner left during Season 2. He remains under an overall deal with MTV Entertainment Studios.
