Will Smith‘s name is involved in a legal dispute between his ex Jada Pinkett Smith and his former friend Bilaal Salaam.

Salaam, also referred to as Brother Bilaal, is requesting the Oscar winner’s testimony in his lawsuit against Pinkett Smith. He claims she orchestrated a smear campaign against him following an alleged confrontation at Smith’s birthday party in 2021, as detailed in court documents obtained by E! News.

In an email exchange included in a motion filed by Pinkett Smith’s legal team on July 15, Salaam—representing himself—expressed his desire to spend the first 10 minutes of a 30-minute call with the actress’ counsel discussing his request to depose Smith.

However, Pinkett Smith’s attorney stated in her filing that her client “denies all such allegations” made by Salaam and contended that there “is nothing to meet and confer about” concerning Smith.

“Mr. Smith is not a party to this litigation,” the attorney wrote in her email response to Salaam. “If you seek his deposition, you must adhere to the applicable procedures for obtaining discovery from a nonparty. To our knowledge, no subpoena has been served on Mr. Smith.”
