It is hard to believe that this year celebrates the 40th anniversary of The Legend of Zelda franchise. First bursting onto the scene back in 1986 for the Famicom Disk System, The Legend of Zelda quickly became a worldwide phenomenon and now, in 2026, the Nintendo franchise boasts 21 core entries, as well as over 30 games in total if you consider remakes, HD ports, and spin-offs.

As such, we all have our favorite entries, with titles such as The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time winning when it comes to games based on our childhood favorites. More recent entries such as The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild have also solidified themselves as modern-day classics. With the future looking bright for the Nintendo franchise, especially thanks to the upcoming live-action movie, there is still time for players to take a trip down memory lane with the return of an iconic entry.

Released back in 2004 and developed by Capcom, The Legend of Zelda: The Minish Cap was published by Nintendo for the Game Boy Advance. Received well by critics, Minish Cap marked the twelfth entry in the Zelda franchise and told the origins of the Four Sword as well as the iconic villain Vaati. However, thanks to the help of a magical talking cap named Ezlo, Link is able to shrink down to the size of a Minish, making for some interesting and unique gameplay.

Well, after over two decades, The Legend of Zelda: The Minish Cap is back courtesy of a brand-new PC port. It may be unofficial, but it is the next best thing as players will be able to experience the 2004 gem in all of its glory once more. Showcased by Video Game Esoterica over on YouTube, The Legend of Zelda: The Minish Cap is now available to play on PC, with the YouTuber sharing, “It’s time to test a new build of The Legend of Zelda: Minish Cap PC port! Because it’s not fair that 3D Zelda games get all the fun with the Twilight Princess: Courage Reborn PC Port! Still WIP and being tested, but it’s showing a ton of promise and more Nintendo PC ports is always a good thing! This is why retro gaming is making a comeback.”

In the 10-minute video, we can see the PC port in action, and it is safe to say that it has managed to capture the magic of Minish Cap whilst adapting it to ideal PC gameplay. It seemingly runs smoothly despite being a WIP, and as such, fans are impressed with the latest installment in the unofficial Zelda PC ports. “Bring on the ports,” one comment read. “We have entered a Golden Age!” Another agreed, adding, “What a time to be alive. The magic of de- and recompilations will never cease to amaze me. If you’d shown these PC ports of beloved Nintendo games to me in the mid 00s, I would’ve been out of my mind. It was unthinkable that this could some day be possible without emulation.”
