1 Band Sharon Osbourne ‘Really Wanted’ for Back to the Beginning

The lineup for Ozzy Osbourne and Black Sabbath’s Back to the Beginning farewell show in 2025 featured an impressive array of rock and metal legends, but in a recent interview, Sharon Osbourne revealed one major band she wished could have joined the event.

The festival spanned 10 hours and took place at the Villa Park stadium in Birmingham, England, the hometown of Ozzy and Sabbath. The lineup included short performances from Metallica, Guns N’ Roses, Slayer, Pantera, Tool, Gojira, Alice in Chains, Lamb of God, Halestorm, Anthrax, Rival Sons, and Mastodon, along with several all-star groups curated by Tom Morello, who served as the musical director. Notably, Yungblud won a Grammy for his rendition of “Changes” with one of the all-star ensembles during the concert.

So which band was absent that Sharon had hoped to see?

Which Band Did Sharon Osbourne Wish to Include?

Leading up to Back to the Beginning, Judas Priest were considered but had a scheduling conflict due to their commitment to a Scorpions anniversary show. Soundgarden was initially involved but ultimately did not perform at the concert. Additionally, Wolfgang Van Halen withdrew shortly before the event due to another scheduling conflict.

However, it was Megadeth that Sharon specifically mentioned as a band she truly wished could have participated.

“We really, really wanted Megadeth,” Osbourne admitted to Rolling Stone. “There was no time; we couldn’t fit everybody in on one day. There were so many bands that were due to play that we just couldn’t because there was not enough time.”

Ultimately, Megadeth was the only “Big 4” thrash band that did not appear on the lineup. Osbourne did not provide further details on other names that were considered.

What Did Sharon Osbourne Say About the Performers and Organizers?

“Oh my God, there were so many great performances. It was just overwhelming. Even when the drummers were up there—Travis [Barker] and Chad [Smith] and Danny [Carey]—everything was just fantastic that day,” she shared with Rolling Stone.

Instead of focusing on individual acts, she praised those who helped organize the event.

“Without Tom Morello and [Live Nation promoter] Andy Copping, it would never have happened,” she noted. “Tom Morello is an absolute saint; he is incredible. His understanding of music and what’s right and wrong is remarkable. He deserves sainthood; he is the saint of metal. He’s wise and knowledgeable on so many levels.

She continued, “Andy Copping has been part of our lives forever too; he is an amazing music man. Every band on that show was a friend of Andy’s. Despite working for Live Nation—a large corporation—everyone adores Andy Copping. He’s one of the most renowned promoters globally; he’s simply the best.”

Back to the Beginning Will Be Released as a Film

The concert was among the significant events of 2025, and now in 2026, a full concert film will be released in theaters. As Sharon disclosed in her interview, every act that performed will be featured in the movie; however, due to time constraints, complete sets from that day will not be included. It has been announced that 30 performances from that day are part of the film’s final cut.
