After earning almost $700 million at the box office and proving popular on PVOD, 2026’s best sci-fi movie yet is now a huge hit on streaming. On Prime Video, for the past couple of weeks, Ryan Gosling‘s new sci-fi masterpiece, Project Hail Mary, has topped the charts, outperforming the likes of The Sheep Detectives, 2025’s Superman, and Tom Clancy’s Jack Ryan: Ghost War, a follow-up to the hit action series starring John Krasinski.
Sure to earn recognition from the Academy in early 2027, Project Hail Mary has already earned widespread acclaim both critically and commercially. Phil Lord and Christopher Miller‘s adaptation of the 2021 novel by Andy Weir scored a near-perfect 9/10 in a review from Collider’s Ross Bonaime, who called it “the first great film of 2026.” But Project Hail Mary isn’t the only sci-fi movie of the year to deserve recognition, with perhaps the most criminally underrated of 2026 so far finally winning over viewers on streaming.
The film in question is Redux Redux, which incredibly has managed to score higher than Project Hail Mary on review aggregator Rotten Tomatoes, albeit from fewer submissions. After premiering at the South by Southwest Film Festival in 2025, the film received a limited theatrical release in February 2026. Redux Redux is directed by brothers Kevin McManus and Matthew McManus, who kept their casting search as local as possible when hiring their sister, Michaela McManus, to lead as Irene Kelly. At the time of writing, Redux Redux is the fifth-most-watched movie on Hulu in the U.S., a list topped by Ready or Not 2: Here I Come, the sequel to the 2019 horror hit directed by Radio Silence duo Matt Bettinelli-Olpin and Tyler Gillett.
