Earlier this year, the Aaron Taylor-Johnson crime thriller Fuze exploded into theaters. A tale of high-octane action and high explosives, the film didn’t make a huge crater in the box office. Now, the countdown is on to its streaming release date, which is coming sooner than you might think.

Fuze centers around an unexploded bomb, seemingly left over from World War II, that’s unearthed on a construction site in the heart of London. The military and police, commanded by Zuzana Greenfield (Gugu Mbatha-Raw), secure the area and evacuate the surrounding civilians while Major Will Tranter (Taylor-Johnson) and his team are sent in to defuse the device. Amidst the unrest, George Karalis (Theo James) and his crew, including the mysterious X (Sam Worthington), break into a now-abandoned bank to steal a fortune in uncut diamonds. However, all is not as it seems, as the plot goes through more complications than a booby-trapped detonator; when the dust clears from the explosive climax, you might not believe who’s still standing in the rubble.

Fuze will hit streaming on HBO Max starting on September 4. The film is from director David Mackenzie, who had a critical and financial hit with another bank-robbery thriller, the Taylor Sheridan-penned Hell or High Water, back in 2016. The script is by Ben Hopkins (Inside). It was released in theaters earlier this year and garnered $5 million USD at the box office. It earned solid reviews from critics and holds a 72% Fresh rating on Rotten Tomatoes. In his review, Collider’s Ross Bonaime called the film “mediocre,” but praised fun performances from Taylor-Johnson and James.
