What else do we know about Tom Hanks’ Abraham Lincoln movie?
The film is adapted from a 2017 novel written by George Saunders. Duke Johnson, who co-directed 2015’s Anomalisa with Charlie Kaufman, is the director. Johnson also directed a 2025 movie titled The Actor.
The movie will reportedly utilize a blend of stop-motion animation and live-action to “explore one of the most intimate moments of Lincoln’s life, centering on his relationship with his recently deceased 11-year-old son,” as described by Deadline. “The film will delve into themes of love, empathy, and human capacity in the face of grief as the narrative unfolds through an ensemble of characters, both living and dead, historical and invented.”
The project comes from Starburns Industries, with production expected to occur in London. Hanks and Gary Goetzman will produce Lincoln in the Bardo for Hanks’ Playtone label, while Johnson, Paul Young, and Devon Young Rabinowitz are producing for Starburns Industries. Steven Shareshian, Aaron Mitchell, and Saunders serve as executive producers.
