AI Music Dominates Nearly 40% of New Releases

New research indicates that artificial intelligence was responsible for creating nearly 40% of the music released in July 2026. This study also questions whether about a third of creators were being truthful when they claimed they had not used AI in their compositions.

These figures were reported shortly after the SubmitHub platform introduced its AI detection tool, SH Labs, which aims to address a “growing disclosure problem” that keeps listeners unaware of how the music they hear is produced.

The SH Labs tool, utilized by Bandcamp, Traxsource, and others, analyzed over a million songs released last month. Of these, 23.2% were identified as entirely AI-generated, while an additional 15.3% contained AI elements that had been “modified” by humans.

The recent study also revealed that 31% of AI-generated songs were incorrectly labeled by their submitters as not artificially generated.

SubmitHub CEO Jason Grishkoff stated: “I think the path forward for AI music is disclosure. People should be able to decide for themselves whether they want to engage with AI-generated music. Our job is to give them enough information to make that choice.”

Do Most Music Producers Use AI?

Last month, several prominent industry organizations announced intentions to create an AI badging system to assist listeners in understanding how songs are produced, although participation in this system will be voluntary.
