It’s a challenging time for individuals in the American population who require reproductive healthcare, but Olivia Rodrigo is actively raising awareness for the cause by engaging in discussions with the Center for Reproductive Rights about critical issues currently impacting many people at home.
In videos shared on Tuesday (July 21) via Instagram, Rodrigo converses with three different legal experts and leaders affiliated with the center, which advocates for reproductive equity in courtrooms worldwide, representing individuals in need and challenging oppressive laws. In one clip, she learns about the ongoing threats to access to mifepristone — jeopardizing women’s ability to obtain medical abortions in the early stages of pregnancy using this FDA-approved drug — and in another, she questions why numerous southern states continue to impose stringent restrictions on midwifery.
“I don’t even understand the mindset behind not supporting midwifery,” she states after senior counsel Hillary Schneller explains the disproportionate — and largely preventable — rates at which Black women, unable to access midwives for safe deliveries, die during childbirth. “Is it just about wanting to control women and bring them down? It just doesn’t make any sense.”
The Grammy winner has consistently utilized her platform for advocacy regarding reproductive rights. Earlier this summer, she announced her inaugural self-curated Daisy Chain Fields festival, featuring performances by superstars like Stevie Nicks, Chappell Roan, and Doechii to raise funds for charities supporting women and girls. In April 2025, Rodrigo was recognized by Planned Parenthood for her efforts with her Fund 4 Good, which raised $2 million for abortion funds during her Guts World Tour.
On that same night, Planned Parenthood also honored Amanda Zurawski, who filed a lawsuit against her home state of Texas in 2023 after being denied an abortion to terminate an unviable pregnancy, which nearly resulted in her death from sepsis. She also experienced permanent damage to her reproductive organs.
Zurawski’s case was mentioned in another of Rodrigo’s discussion videos with the Center for Reproductive Rights, where she asserts: “It’s not very pro-life to jeopardize these women’s health long-term. Seeing them in the ICU is terrifying. It’s pro-control.”
The singer’s visit to the center occurs during a busy period for her. After debuting at the top of the Billboard 200 with her new album you seem pretty sad for a girl so in love — which produced the No. 1 hit on the Billboard Hot 100, “Drop Dead” — Rodrigo is preparing for a nearly eight-month tour starting in September.
