Apple TV’s Crime Thriller Takes a Dark Turn in New Sneak Peek

Criminal Record captivated audiences with its first season. Now the hit Apple TV series is coming back for Season 2, with the first episode arriving tomorrow. Starring Cush Jumbo and Peter Capaldi, the series explored the challenges of policing during Season 1, but this time around, what happens when Detective Sergeant June Lenker (Jumbo) and Detective Chief Inspector Daniel Hegarty (Capaldi) have to work together to investigate the stabbing of a young man at a political rally? To celebrate the return of the Apple TV series, we’re excited to share an exclusive first look at Season 2, featuring June checking in on inmate Billy Fielding, the man she thinks is responsible for this death.

The series is described as follows: “Criminal Record is a powerful, character-driven drama set in the heart of contemporary London, exploring the impossibility of policing when the truth is up for grabs. In season two, when a young man is stabbed to death at a political rally, rival police officers June Lenker and Daniel Hegarty are forced into an uneasy alliance. But what starts as a hunt for a murderer escalates into an undercover operation to foil a Far-Right bomb plot in the heart of London.”

Our exclusive sneak peek uses an exciting mix of memory with June in the moment as she’s calling the prison to check on Billy. Taking her back to the moment the stabbing happened, mixed with her conversation on the phone, the scene is a thrilling look into the kind of tension we can expect in Season 2. Especially now that we’re going to have to see both June and Daniel working together despite the two being at odds in Season 1 with June’s cold case discovery.

Peter Capaldi and Cush Jumbo Go Head-to-Head in ‘Criminal Record’

For many fans, Capaldi is known as the Doctor from his era of Doctor Who. So seeing him in a show like Criminal Record has been a fun transition for the actor. He has been known for his talents long before his run as the Doctor, but it is still fun to see the hilarious Malcolm Tucker from The Thick of It, taking on a more twisted role like Daniel. And watching Capaldi go head-to-head with Jumbo is what has made Criminal Record such a compelling series to dive into.

You can see Jumbo and Capaldi in the new season of Criminal Record on Apple TV. Season 2 premieres on April 22.
