A long-running comedy series has returned for another bite on Apple TV.
Apple TV launched in 2019 as Apple TV+, and since that time it has brought a number of major streaming hits to audiences across the world. In the comedy sphere, this includes their megahit soccer show Ted Lasso, Lasso co-creator Bill Lawrence’s well-received follow-up series Shrinking and Bad Monkey, the Seth Rogen-led Hollywood satire The Studio, and the hit new horror-comedy Widow’s Bay, which was recently renewed for season 2. However, all of them are preceded by a show that is the longest-running ongoing comedy on the platform, which has returned for a new season that is already a hit.
The show in question is the British comedyTrying, which debuted three months beforeTed Lasso, on May 1, 2020. The show, which has an average score of 97% on Rotten Tomatoes, stars Esther Smith and Rafe Spall as a couple who decide to adopt a child after trying and failing to conceive. It was renewed for a fifth season in 2025. The new eight-episode season officially premiered on Apple TV on July 8, and is set to run weekly episodes through August 26. p>
Just three days after the season 5 premiere,Tryinghas made an appearance onApple TV‘s daily chart of their most-watched television series on July 11. The show is currently at No. 10 on the chart, behind series includingWidow’s Bay(No. 3),Ted Lasso(No. 5),Shrinking(No. 9), the sci-fi seriesSilo(No. 1) andStar City(No. 8), and a variety of star-studded dramas and thrillers such asCape Fear(No. 2),Sugar(No. 4),Your Friends & Neighbors(No. 6), andMaximum Pleasure Guaranteed(No. 7). p>
Tryingis even higher worldwide, hitting No. 5 on the global Top 10 chart for Apple TV, behind justWidow’s Bay(No. 4),Sugar(No. 3),Cape Fear(No. 2), andSilo(No. 1). This sees it earning a place above massively popular Apple TV series likeTed Lasso(No. 8) and the sci-fi workplace dramaSeverance(No. 9). p>
This is because the series has widespread support from many regions across the globe. In fact, it is on the Apple TV Top 10 charts in more than six dozen individual territories. While it has peaked at No. 2 in Turkmenistan, it is No. 3 in six of them (The Bahamas, Botswana, New Zealand, Sri Lanka, Uganda, and Antigua and Barbuda) and No. 4 in nine more (Belarus, Cyprus, Ecuador, Indonesia, Malaysia, Mauritius, Mozambique, South Africa, and the United Kingdom). p>
BecauseTryingis already surging up theApple TVchart even though only one episode of season 5 is available, it seems highly likely that it will continue to climb over the coming weeks as more episodes are added, which will allow it to achieve a greater cumulative number of viewing hours as more people catch up with the new season. If it manages to keep up this momentum, it is entirely possible that the show will be renewed for season 6 before long. p>
