Moon Knight was one of Marvel Studios’ most successful series, bringing Oscar Isaac to the forefront of the MCU for a while. Yet four years on, the hero is nowhere to be seen in the wider universe. While Isaac is interested in reprising the role, new information says it’s not happening soon.
What is the update on Oscar Isaac’s MCU future as Moon Knight?
Moon Knight debuted on Disney+ in 2022, but the Egyptian superhero hasn’t surfaced in the MCU since. Many have speculated that he could return for a potential Season 2 or Midnight Sons project, but Marvel hasn’t officially confirmed either of them in the works.
Jeremy Slater, the head writer of Moon Knight, has shared new details about Isaac’s contract that reveal whether his return would be possible. “The contract Oscar Isaac signed was very much like, we will do more stories when we find stories that he is creatively excited to tell,” Slater told ComicBook.
“They can just sort of snap their fingers and summon him back for another adventure. He’s really creatively involved in the future of that character. So I would imagine part of the challenge, and part of the joy over there, is finding: what stories does Oscar want to explore, and how does he want that character to be used? What’s something that would entice him to get back and play in that sandbox one more time?”
This means that, if Moon Knight is going to return to the MCU, it has to be for a story that Isaac specifically wants to be part of. Even though it’s been four years since the show premiered, they seemingly haven’t found one yet, meaning MCU fans will have to keep waiting to see if the character returns. Of course, there are plenty of rumors suggesting Moon Knight will take center stage in the MCU’s future.
Isaac himself has hinted at talks about a Midnight Sons project, a project that could potentially feature other Marvel supernatural heroes, such as Blade and Ghost Rider. Although Marvel Studios failed to start production on a Blade movie, a Midnight Sons film may kill multiple birds with one stone by bringing many fan-favorite heroes under one roof.
