Carrie Coon, renowned for her work in physical media, originally voiced the character Proxima Midnight in the blockbuster Avengers: Infinity War. However, fans were surprised to find her character absent in Avengers: Endgame. Recently, her husband, Tracy Letts, revealed that Coon chose not to reprise her role due to a pay dispute with Marvel, who reportedly refused to offer her a raise and suggested that she should feel fortunate to be part of the expansive Marvel Cinematic Universe.

In a candid conversation with Variety, Coon elaborated on the pay dispute she encountered with Marvel Studios. She highlighted that the situation reflects a broader issue within the film industry. “It’s about what’s driving our industry — the notion that you should feel lucky to be part of this profitable machine.” She used a vivid metaphor to illustrate her point: “Imagine starting your career in a business, earning an entry-level salary. After ten years, when a prestigious company approaches you, they offer you the same entry-level pay despite your accumulated experience. This situation feels inequitable.”
Coon further explained, “The lesson is that my time is more valuable elsewhere. Parting ways with this company was a business decision made amicably, particularly as a family-oriented individual. My time has greater value than the compensation being offered. This issue is indicative of a shift in the entertainment landscape. Intellectual property (IP) has been the driving force, but perhaps we are beginning to see a change in that dynamic.” She added that many people misunderstand how salaries are structured in these scenarios and would likely be surprised by the figures involved in her decision.
Recently, Carrie Coon was also featured in the ensemble cast of the highly acclaimed third season of The White Lotus, which has just concluded its finale. Our own Alex Maidy praised season three, describing it as “as exceptional, if not superior, than any previous season.” He elaborated, “While it may not be as humorously engaging as the first season, this new installment of The White Lotus delves deeper into the dark and dramatic themes of secrets and lies that friends and family conceal from one another, delivering a masterclass in storytelling. For fans of the previous seasons, the third season will leave you in awe. I am continually amazed by how Mike White elevates an already brilliant series; this season is undoubtedly the best yet, and I eagerly anticipate the finale.” For a deeper dive into Maidy’s insights, you can read his full review here.
