High Potential may be on hiatus while Season 3 is in production, but the ABC crime thriller continues to demonstrate why audiences keep returning. Across its first two seasons, the series follows an easy-to-digest, NCIS-style episodic format: genius-turned-consultant Morgan Gillory (Kaitlin Olson) and high-strung Detective Adam Karadec (Daniel Sunjata) are handed a case, and their job is to solve it. It’s a tried-and-true formula that makes High Potential an easy watch, but being easy to watch and being binge-worthy are two different things.
High Potential might hook audiences with its elaborate cases and Morgan’s unconventional detective methods, but there’s a secret ingredient that makes the series worth binging. All those hours of watching the show eventually pay off in one unexpected moment in a particular episode, proving that High Potential has more to offer than its weekly mysteries.
What Is ‘High Potential’ About?
Based on the 2021 Franco-Belgian television series HPI, High Potential introduces Morgan (Olson) as the show’s unexpected hero. With an IQ of 160 and a diagnosis of high-potential intellectual, Morgan has a strong photographic memory, an extensive library of general worldly knowledge, and an uncanny ability to connect the dots. But instead of working as a detective, she’s a night-shift cleaner at the Los Angeles Police Department. Upon noticing a messy case board, however, she can’t help but reorganize it.
