Fallout Remake Announced After 29 Years of Original Release

There is no doubt that Fallout 3 introduced many players to the franchise for the first time, as it transitioned to 3D FPS and vividly portrayed post-apocalyptic America in a way previously unseen in video games.

However, the original games are fantastic in their own right, and if you can adapt to the different style, they offer an incredible opportunity to explore the roots of all the lore we cherish today. Fortunately, if the original gameplay style does not appeal to you, a new way to experience the original game that will be more familiar to fans of modern Fallout games may soon be available.

On Reddit, one user highlighted the YouTube channel FalloutMachine, which is documenting their efforts to rebuild the first Fallout game within Fallout: New Vegas. Since the latter is arguably the most beloved game in the series and highly adaptable for modders, it is an exciting project to witness.

The channel owner regularly uploads brief progress reports on the project, detailing their work and approach. While some challenges may arise along the way, they have started earnestly, with the latest video showcasing day 52 of active work on this endeavor.

The original post received positive comments, along with some skepticism about whether such an ambitious mod could be completed. “A 3D open world adaptation of Fallout 1 and 2 would be amazing!” one comment stated.

Another more doubtful fan remarked, “I’m not going to get my hopes up, this exact thing has been started and canceled too many times.”

Although we won’t see Fallout 5 for quite some time (as Bethesda is primarily focused on finally releasing The Elder Scrolls VI), it remains a good time to be a fan. The modding community continues to impress with older games, while the excellent Prime Video adaptation has introduced the franchise in a whole new medium.

At the same time, rumors about a potential remaster of Fallout 3 continue to circulate. If it receives treatment similar to that of Oblivion, it would certainly help alleviate some of the wait for the sequel.
