It’s time to say au revoir to the 2026 Cannes Film Festival.
After a two-week run, this year’s festivities are coming to a close on May 23. But the movies weren’t the only thing to capture audiences’ attention. The fashion did too—with many stars bringing a certain je ne sais quoi to the red carpet.
Take John Travolta, for instance. The Grease alum went viral for his array of berets, which were inspired by his directorial debut with Propeller One-Way Night Coach.
“I’ve been around for over 50 years doing movies, but I can’t tell when I look back the difference between the events,” Travolta recently explained to CNN. “And I said, ‘I’m a director this time. You’re an actor. Play the part of a director.'”
So, he did a little research.
“I looked up pictures—20s, 30s, 40s, 50s, 60s—and the old school directors wore berets and glasses,” the Saturday Night Fever star continued. “And I thought, ‘That’s what I’m doing. I’m gonna do an homage to being a director.’
