Carly Rae Jepsen Explains Departure from Scooter Braun Management

Carly Rae Jepsen did not consider her decision to part ways with longtime manager Scooter Braun to be particularly surprising.

In fact, the “Call Me Maybe” singer holds no animosity towards the music executive, who she first signed with in 2011 after attracting the attention of his then-client Justin Bieber.

“I realized that I was on a different path than he comprehended,” Jepsen told The Hollywood Reporter in an interview published on September 8. “I wanted to pursue something a bit less mainstream, and while I appreciated what he had offered, I no longer felt it aligned with my desires.”

She added, “I thought it would be simpler to shake hands, walk away, and let my freak flag fly, so to speak.”

Moreover, the 40-year-old felt confident that her next chapter was in capable hands. As Jepsen playfully noted, “I took one of his employees with me.”

Currently, Jepsen is “happier than I’ve ever been.”

“I’ve had positive experiences with people, and I’ve faced challenges too,” she shared. “It has taken some time to find the right team for my management.”
