Day four of the Spring 2027 season of London Fashion Week, and mid-afternoon, the British Fashion Council’s schedule granted us the anticipated debut of Christopher Kane as Mulberry creative director. Appointed back in March, the Scottish Central Saint Martin’s graduate struck a balance between his own sensibility and the rich heritage of the British leather goods house. On the runway, leather outerwear was punctuated by cutouts inspired by the iconic Mulberry Bayswater handbag. Classic carryalls, top-handle and shoulder bags were reimagined. Oversized long-sleeve T-shirts and shimmering iridescent minidresses rounded out the collection. The collection looked beyond the leather goods that have defined the brand, bringing ready-to-wear back into focus.
Mulberry Spring 2027 Collection Review
Read below the reactions of theFashionSpot’s forum members:
“There’s something very Demna-meets-JWA (complementary) about this show, the venue, the models and the clothes themselves.” [LadyJunon]
“O…kay. Some kind of London version of Courrèges? The deconstructed bag panels as RTW elements? Worked well on a coat, but that’s it. The merch items with the logo… no, no, burn this.
The bags felt cheap, which is a bit of a pity. Weak casting. Underwhelming.” [Thefrenchy]
“Such a flop! No joy! It’s too strange and lacks quirky sweetness. The slits are neither sexy nor interesting. He mentioned city, town, and country… these clothes are not it. Why are we seeing Prada ghost dresses?” [TomBlanksFullFatMiuMiu]
“Meh. I expected more textures, more fun.” [prylvi]
“What a letdown…” [Lola701]
“For me, the best looks by far were the ones that referenced Mulberry’s British heritage elements – check print, knitwear etc – but updated them in a fresh and interesting way. The looks which veered too edgy felt like a square peg in a round hole. Not necessarily bad, just out of place. Overall it swung a little too avant garde and clinical for me – I’d love more colour, more texture and more depth next time.” [nationalsalt]
“Aww I really don’t mind this at all. It’s a strange debut for sure, especially for Mulberry, but he’s got a creative novel touch that’s quite visible here with the panelling and fastening. It IS quite miserable-looking for a spring collection, though. Color is the biggest issue. Very incoherent.” [Squizree]
