With a little over a month remaining until The Further Mis-Adventures of Cliff Booth hits theaters, it’s time for the film’s promotional campaign to ramp up. Today, Empire unveiled a new image from the upcoming period drama, along with the feature’s official runtime, which is 140 minutes.
A New Chapter in 1977 Los Angeles
The Further Mis-Adventures of Cliff Booth sees David Fincher directing a sort-of sequel to Quentin Tarantino’s Once Upon a Time in Hollywood, with Brad Pitt reprising his role as the suave stuntman, Cliff Booth. The new film features a script by Tarantino, who is excited to collaborate with Fincher for this exploration of Booth’s adventures.

“The Fairytale is Over”: Official Synopsis and Cast Details
“Murder, blackmail, theft, extortion — just another summer in Hollywood,” states the film’s official synopsis. “It’s 1977, eight years since Cliff Booth (Brad Pitt) encountered the Manson family in Quentin Tarantino’s alternate history of 1969, Once Upon a Time… in Hollywood. In The Further Adventures of Cliff Booth, directed by David Fincher from a new script by Tarantino, the fairytale is over. Los Angeles no longer requires a hippie-slaying stuntman as it once did. However, Hollywood will always face challenges that can only be addressed by someone with Cliff’s unique (occasionally extralegal) skills. When he’s not making ends meet bartending or working as a projectionist, Cliff Booth acts as a fixer — resolving issues for Hollywood’s elite and sometimes not-so-elite.
He becomes intrigued when he receives a call from talent agent Karen Crosby (Elizabeth Debicki), representing her client, TV megastar Charlie Peters (Scott Caan) — known for performing his own stunts. He is further entertained and intrigued when he meets other characters in Charlie’s circle, including his perceptive wife Toni (Carla Gugino) and former pro football champion turned screen star Roderick “Hot Rod” Harrison (Yahya Abdul-Mateen II). Additionally, there are the Verdusco brothers (Matt Groove and JB Tadena), enigmatic gangsters creating chaos throughout the city. What was once a fairytale has transformed into a crime narrative — a blend of violence, ambition, and desire that could only unfold in LA.”
Not a Hangout Movie: Quentin Tarantino on the Film’s Crime-Thriller Tone
In an interview with Empire, Tarantino mentioned that audiences should anticipate Cliff Booth to differ from OUATIH, stating, “I don’t consider it a hangout movie at all,” says Tarantino regarding Cliff Booth. “Once Upon A Time In Hollywood was a hangout movie, but you know you’re going to Cielo Drive (site of the Manson murders). It has this force; therefore, I didn’t require much plot. This script was quite different.”
“To me, it had the essence of an Elmore Leonard paperback: a crime-story paperback feel,” teased Tarantino.
While Fincher had enough material for at least two films due to Tarantino’s extensive script (230 pages), they decided to limit themselves to one film to avoid overstaying their welcome with Booth. Fincher revealed that he cut 60 pages from the script, so it’s reassuring to know we’ll receive a Tarantino-written novel alongside the movie.
