Since its release back in 2020, there is no denying that, despite its rocky launch, Cyberpunk 2077 has cemented itself as one of the greatest video games of all time. Not only did CD Projekt RED offer us an RPG experience like no other, but the studio proved it was far from a fluke when it launched Cyberpunk 2077‘s first and only DLC, Phantom Liberty, back in 2023.
Selling over 10 million copies since launch and introducing a whole new legion of fans to the dystopian RPG, Phantom Liberty itself is regarded as one of the best DLCs of all time, with our very own Screen Rant review calling it “electrifying, emotional, and full of twists.”
Where the base game may have initially failed to keep its word, Phantom Liberty delivers. Fans of Night City have plenty to look forward to; between relieving quality-of-life improvements, fresh ways to experience Night City, and a story that’ll have players questioning their own values, it embodies all of Cyberpunk 2077‘s good, and almost none of it is bad.
Thanks to Phantom Liberty’s success, there is no surprise that fans have been calling out for even more DLC. However, with CDPR announcing that it would be Cyberpunk 2077‘s “first and only” DLC, we had to accept the unfortunate truth. Well, that was until it was revealed that a second DLC had been in development before it was scrapped. Not only that, but rumors suggest that this second DLC would have taken us to the moon, and any Cyberpunk: Edgerunners fan will know that this would have been an incredible setting.
Now, courtesy of one user over on r/cyberpunkgame, we have now received new information about the scrapped DLC, with claims that development had reached pretty far stages before it was cut.
“The map size was a square that was supposed to be 6 km × 6 km. We would travel to different areas (possibly cities like Tycho) using a special car. Sadly, we don’t have a good-looking model of it. The only one that exists is made of basic shapes,” the user shared, alongside some concept art of the supposedly scrapped project. “Considering that the moon colonies don’t abide by Corpo laws, the DLC’s main focus was most likely not Arasaka, although Militech could still have been a secondary antagonistic corporation.”
They go on to explain that the Moon DLC would have featured a boss fight, alongside characters known as Kenji who would appear alongside his mentor. “There was also a Corpo bunker we would have visited, and something related to the Mass Driver,” they continued. “There was a Militech prop car near it, and the Mass Driver itself looked damaged. We would also visit a Drug Lab and a school (At least I think that was a school). There is no way to know whether it was supposed to be open-world or linear.”
Of course, all of this speculation should be taken with a pinch of salt, but there is no denying that heading to the Moon would have been a logical step for our V, especially following its significance in the Cyberpunk: Edgerunners DLC. Who knows? Hopefully, it will make an appearance in the Cyberpunk 2077 sequel when it launches in the future.
