New images from David Ayer‘s upcoming thriller, starring Brad Pitt, have been revealed. The first-look pictures from Heart of the Beast show off the Alaskan wilderness and tease the survival challenges Pitt’s character will face alongside his dog.
What do we see in the first look photos of Brad Pitt’s new movie?
The first images from Heart of the Beast were revealed by GQ. The images showcase Pitt’s gritty new look in various locations across the Alaskan wilderness. Pitt is, of course, joined by his trusty German shepherd. The images seem to be from different scenes, showing Pitt holding a rifle, standing on a seaplane, and camping outside with the dog.
In the film, Pitt plays James Belmont, an Army veteran who, alongside his retired combat dog Odin, must survive harsh conditions after their plane crashes. A trailer for the film played at CinemaCon, showing Pitt and his dog fighting against wolves, bears, and other beasts.
David Ayer directed last year’s A Working Man and previously helmed The Beekeeper, Bright, Suicide Squad, and more. When asked why he took on a film he didn’t write himself, Ayer said he was smitten by the bond between man and animal.
“I’ll just be really honest: it made me cry,” Ayer said. “Reading the script, it’s like a tone poem, in a sense. It’s so sparse—just a guy, a dog, mountains, and the calamities and triumphs that unfold, but what’s fascinating about the script is they’re constantly rescuing each other. It’s not like a guy and his pet—they felt like co-equals in this story. Brad wanted to be No. 2 on the call sheet, and rightly so. There was just something profound in the script. It felt like a study in grief, in healing, and of the human heart. So I had to do it.”
The film stars Pitt, J.K. Simmons, and Anna Lambe. Heart of the Beast is directed by David Ayer from a screenplay by Cameron Alexander. Pitt and Ayer also serve as the producers alongside Marty Bowen, and Olivia Hamilton. Additionally, Damien Chazelle, Cameron Alexander, Chris Long, Pete Chiappetta, Anthony Tittanegro, Andrew Lary, Sophie Cassidy, and Zack Conroy are executive producing the film. This is the second collaboration between Pitt and Ayer following 2014’s Fury.
